Browser Games #6

I've downloaded too many games lately, and my queue has been growing. So we're gonna instead take a look at some game you can play in your browser, with no downloads needed. Let's have a look!

1. Bertram Fiddle and the Inexplicable Meat Mound

 Meat my monster!

Bertram Fiddle and the Inexplicable Meat Mound is a sort of create your own monster type of game created by Rumpus Animation. This game is a silly pastime in which you use various chunks of meat to build a horrific monster to call your own!

You can see above the monster I created. It was fun enough, though the idea of actually playing with meat is seriously off putting. The graphics are nice, for chunks of meat, and there is also a decent variety of chunks to work from.

Overall this game is short, and unless you really like creating meat monsters, will only warrant 5-10 minutes of gameplay. This seemed like a side project while Rumpus Animation worked on the main Adventures of Bertram Fiddle game. Whatever the case, you can build your meat monster right in your browser on Itch.io, *here*.

2. It Shakes the World Apart

Hi Ruth!
It Shakes the World Apart is a game created by lectvs about making friends. You play as Soloman, a lonely character who has become a recluse, with only your imaginary friend Angie to keep you company. However, your loneliness is stubborn, and you feel as though you’re falling apart. Angie encourages you to go out and make some real friends, so that’s what we’re going to do.

There are 4 other characters in the neighborhood to meet, although I suppose I identify most with Ruth. She wants to make friends, but feel like she’s too much of a bother. I feel you, girl. The interactions with the characters are a bit dry, though, and lackluster.

The pixel graphics are cute, and the sounds are decent. I didn’t care for the music, but it’s not bad, it just doesn’t fit my taste in music. Overall this game is mediocre in terms of gameplay, but the sentiment is nice, and I love pixel graphics. It’s sort, about 7 minutes for a full play through, so feel free to try it in browser for yourself *here*.

3. Fancy Fartifacts and Devilish Deals

Purrito, anyone?

Fancy Fartifacts and Devlish Deals is a fun game created by LUREKILL. You are running a shop with a demon, and if you sell enough items maybe you can get your curse lifted. But watch out! If you sell too many sketchy items, the magic police will get wind and shut you down.

I had fun playing this game. Some of the items you see are quirky, and, if you take the time to look at them, quite funny. The graphics are nice, the music is fitting for a fame about running a shop, and the sounds are nice as well.

Overall, this one is a nice way to pass some time. You can play it for free right in your browser in Itch.io *here*

4. Pond

 Ahh, those relaxing pixel graphics.

If the last game got you in a tozzy trying to hurry and sell off those nefarious items, then here is a game to help you slow back down. Pond is a rock skipping simulator created by Brendan Keogh. There’s not much else to say about it, that’s the entire game.

So slow down, relax, and skip some stones for a little bit. You can skip stones in browser *here*

Thank you once again guys, gals, and non-binary pals, for spending some time with me today. As always, be sure to leave your encouragement and feedback for the developers on their respective pages, and happy gaming!

Browser Games #5

Ohayou gozaimasu, mina-san. Good morning! Today we're going to find some more games from Itch.io that you can play right in your browser. So, no downloads, no waiting! Let's get to it!

1. Pie Planet: Octopus Flavor

 Source: Screen Capture

Pie Planet: Octopus Flavor is a cute little game about inhabiting a small planet and gathering resources to find a way off said planet. The game was created by FaFaStudio, and can be played in your internet browser.

This game is cute and interesting, but was a bit difficult to get the hang of. The resources you need to collect are often floating through space, and you right-click to send your octopus friend to go get it. But it seems, at least for me, the little octopus moved much slower than I did, so I would often miss the resources I was trying to collect.

I also ran into an issue when a giant fly (alien) landed directly on top of me and glitched the game, leaving me trapped and unable to progress any further. I still found this game interesting, and think it’s worth a try. You might like it! You can play for free on the itch.io page *here*.

2. Crash Course

 Source: Screen Capture

Crash Course is a short survival game created by BrandonDiaz for the GB Jam. With the help of an artificial intelligence program known as AEGIS, perhaps you’ll be able to signal Fleet to come to your rescue. First, though, you’ll have to leave the wreckage of your ship to collect some items, and with limited oxygen outside, you’ll have to be quick.

I really enjoyed this little game. The graphics are simple but cute, and remind me of playing old Gameboy games--it even starts up like one! (And the screen cut out looks like a gameboy too!) Overall I really enjoyed it, though the end made me a little sad. I recommend playing it for yourself *here*.

3. Get Witchy

Source: Screen Capture

Get Witchy is a flying witch simulator of sorts, created by austineast. You play as a witch and you’re flying through the night sky to collect candy, but avoid the spooky ghosts! You also have to make sure you don’t get too close to the edges of the screen, or you die.

This game Is surprisingly challenging. You control the witch by holding the mouse button to sink, and then release the button to jump upwards. This can make it difficult to control yourself. I died most often by underestimating how far I would move and hitting the edge of the screen.

Despite that, I still had fun playing. My high score is 10 (as you can see in the screen cap), so… good luck beating that! (haha…) You can play right in your browser *here*.

4. Ink Motes
 Source: Screen Capture

Ink Motes is a strategy puzzle game created by aeveis. It involves bringing ink motes together so that they will be happy. They can only move in straight lines, though, so you also have to avoid obstacles to achieve your goal.

The ink motes are super cute! They look sort of like more colorful versions of the soot sprites from My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. The game got challenging, and I had to really think of how to maneuver the motes to get them around the boxes. My spatial reasoning isn’t that great though, so it was extra difficult for me.

If you like little puzzlers, then you should give this one a try! You can play it right in your browser *here*.

As always, be sure to leave your feedback for the devs! Thank you for sharing some of your time with me, and happy gaming!

Browser Games #4

Hello, Friends! Today I have found 4 more games that you can play right in your browser! That's right--no downloads, no wait. Play away, right away! I hope you find some games that you enjoy here. Let me know what you thought in the comments down below!

1. Loop Hell

Source: Screen Capture from Game

Loop Hell is a puzzle game created by axoona. Can you solve the puzzle and, maybe, get yourself out of this horrible looping nightmare? I found this game interesting, others may find it a bit annoying. I say annoying because the “solution” is not so straightforward. You must take into account the correct order for the items, and also the correct order for the sections to be inserted into the correct spots.

While the item order has clues for the correct order, the order for the sections to be inserted does not… at least, not until after you complete the circle once. ;) I won’t give it away, but you can of course go to the Itch.io page and try it for yourself *here*.

2. Good Impression

Source: Screen Capture from Game

Good Impression is a little action game created by Ellian, where we all feel the familiar panic of having to clean our house before our mother or other family members arrive at our home. With only 3 minutes, you have to clean your house the best you can and hope your mother isn’t snoopy. Oh, of course she is.

I couldn’t get higher than a C grade on this game, and I kept playing to over and over trying to do better. I don’t know where the tissues go! My trash can would get full of other trash and I have no room. Despite that, though, the game is still fun. The graphics are attractive and the controls are pretty smooth. The game can soft crash sometimes if you try to wipe the floor while still moving and happen to slide too far past it. But you can simple press esc to restart.

Over all I thought this game was well made. The sound effect are well done also, and the music gets more intense as the time gets closer and closer to zero, really adding to the panic. I definitely recommend trying the game for yourself. You can play right on the Itch.io page *here*. Let me know if you get a higher score than 75.

3. I Need More Room, Meow

Source: Screen Capture from Game

I Need More Room, Meow is a cute point and click game created by Oleg Grachev. You play as a restless cat whose reckless abandon saves the day! This game isn’t complicated, just click on the objects in the room to see the consequences and try to find a way out.

I like the appearance of the game, where you don’t actually see a cat, but rather the damage it leaves in its wake—usually paw prints and claw marks. For a simple game, I really enjoyed its cute approach. You can see the game for yourself right on the game’s Itch.io page *here*.

4. Poor Doggie

Source: Screen Capture from Game

Poor Doggie is a visual novel style game created by MartinNerurkar, Gisela Wolf, SadMonk, D_Sostre, and mbuntz. In Poor Doggie you play as a cute little dog—a Shiba Inu it looks like(one of my favorite dog breeds). You are received as a christmas gift for a young girl named Sam. Life is happy for a cute young puppy! We’ll be together forever right…?

This game was very emotional for me. It made me think of those ads that say, “A dog is for life, not for a holiday!” Warning, this game deals with some animal abuse, and gets so sad. However, I did enjoy the game, and the message it provided about how these animals gets treated and what can happen to them. If you want to try it for yourself, you can for it on Itch.io *here*.

As always, be sure to leave your comments of encouragement and helpful criticism on the creator’s itch.io page. This helps the creators to continue to develop and improve their skills and content.

Happy Gaming, Friends!

Browser Games #3

Hello, Friends! Today we are going to take a look at some more games that you can give a quick play through right in your browser. That's right! No downloads for these games, just click the link and play. Have fun!

1. A Subtle Kind of Murder

Source: Screen Capture from Game

A Subtle Kind of Murder is a short game created by almostdailymike about trying to conceal a murder. You play as a character who gets into an altercation with a friend in a pub bathroom. Your “friend” is trying to blackmail you for money, in order to keep your secret. In impulsive anger, you kill him. He can no longer tell your secret, but now you are left with another problem… what to do with the body and the evidence…?

It took me a few tries to get to an ending where I didn’t end up arrested and taken to jail. You have to deal with the blood on the floor, the knife, the wallet, and of course, the body. You must deal with all of these things with a short time limit, and without alerting Sarah, the bartender, to your deeds. The lack of music adds to the tense atmosphere of the game, and the sound effects are alright—reminiscent of older game systems. The game only takes about 10 minutes to complete, and you can play it on Itch.io *here*.

2. Cattitude

Source: Screen Capture from Game

Cattitude is an interesting game created by sloppymess. You play as a cat, and, in typical cat fashion, you want human attention... but not too much. Your goal in Cattitude is to get the humans to follow you, but don’t let them actually touch you. Once you have the humans following you, then you head for the door and leave them behind. Alone, and cat-less.

This game isn’t bad by any means. I think the pixel graphic are cute, and they give it a really nostalgic Gameboy game feel. The music is decent, and the controls are straightforward. The rooms seem to be randomly generated, which is kind of neat, but I didn’t get enough out of the game to warrant replay. However, you can always try the game yourself by going to the Itch.io page *here*.

3. Everwitch

Source: Screen Capture from Game

Everwitch is a dungeon crawler game created by Sparrowspell. You play as a witch, traversing a dungeon with your crystal ball and, later on, your wand. You use these two items to get the better of the monsters and solve puzzles. This game is unfinished (it lacks sound effects and music) and the creator ran out of time to implement a save system, so your character also cannot die in this short game.

I really enjoyed what this game did have to offer.  It had a very distinct Legend of Zelda:
A Link to the Past vibe to it--particularly the puzzle style--which makes this game even more
charming.  The graphics are cute, and the game play is smooth and enjoyable. The creator states that
they are working on a full-fledged game so I look forward to seeing it release. I highly recommend
giving this game a try for yourself. You can play this game in browser right on its
Itch.io page *here*.

4. Campfire

Source: Screen Capture from Game

Campfire is a cute little match-4 game created by XenosNS. You are a camp counselor, maybe, that’s what I am going with, telling a scary story to a group of campers. Match 4 icons to raise the scary meter. But avoid the sleeping camper icons, lest you bore the campers to sleep. The goal is to match enough icons to fill the scare meter, and scare the pants off those rotten kids!

The artwork is cute, and I do love matching games. It’s simple enough to play, and the music is relaxing. So it’s a nice way to relax between database work. If you like the casual, relaxing feel of a matching game, then you can give this game a try on its Itch.io page *here*.

As always, be sure to leave the creators your words of encouragement, or helpful criticism, so that they may continue to improve their skills and content.

Happy Gaming, Friends!
